Sonya Powers Colyar is a Winston-Salem entrepreneur who has spent over a decade making a distinct mark on the local restaurant scene as a Winston-Salem business owner. with over a decade of hands-on experience in the restaurant industry and a proven track record for building successful brands from the ground up.
Back in 2012, she launched Simply Soul, which quickly earned a reputation as one of the Triad’s absolute favorite spots for authentic soul food. Passing its ten-year milestone proved the concept had staying power, and its success ultimately grew into the “Simply Brand”.
Looking to offer something different, Sonya opened, Simply Sonya’s Southern Cuisine and Cocktails, in November 2021, now called, Simply Sonya’s The Lounge and Restaurant . The space pairs an upscale, lively lounge atmosphere with the exact same Southern soul food charm her regulars love. Stepping into this lane has also opened up doors for Sonya to collaborate heavily across Winston-Salem, catering for key educational, governmental, and cultural events.
Her life and business took an exciting new turn when she married comedian Michael Colyar. Together, they bring a fresh, dynamic energy to her ventures, seamlessly blending her deep culinary roots with the world of comedy and live entertainment.
